Are you on Instagram? Well follow Yoga_Bao because that is what real yoga journeys are about....find out why....
Like so so many people when I started doing yoga, what 5 odd years ago now, I was driving after the poses and the physical results rather than enjoying the process and ignoring the mental benefits of practice. Is that you?
It's completely fine if that is where you are at. But it's not getting the full benefits of yoga! Yoga is about so much more than asana (poses) and one of the main concepts is enjoying the journey.
My sister, knittenofbritain and I seem to swap hobbies regularly. She got me into my guilty pleasure of quilting. I know. I can't believe I confessed that online. It makes me sound like a nanny and that is why I resisted trying it for so long! But I got her into yoga! (and her friend too, but I take some credit!)
She and a couple of her friends have started an instagram account called Yoga_Bao about their yoga journey. And it is real yoga! It documents the glorious process! It is yoga of a beginner, intermediate and a teacher. It's poses that you can achieve and the progress through them! And it's also the gorgeous photos you'd expect from a yoga account on instagram because it is set in Asia where they all are living.
My particular favorite picture is the one above of my sister in a fine Vrksasana (tree pose) by a tree on some exotic holiday in Thailand or somewhere else gorgeous.
We envy people in Hong Kong for being able to pop over to exotic places in an hour's flight. They envy us for being able to take a train to Brussels or Paris!
If you follow the inspiring (but slightly daunting) yoga instagram legends like Kino MacGregor or BeachYogaGirl or LauraSkyora then please add Yoga_Bao to your newsfeed for a bit of a down to earth contrast to the others accounts. To be fair those legends I talk about are not just about the physical aspects. They often write spiritual missives in the comments and encouragement but I think seeing their glam poses only makes you drive after results too much! It's just natural!
Bao means cake/bun in Cantonese I think. Because to accompany their yoga they eat cake. Cute!
