The new address is:
Downstairs, Jericho Coffee Traders, King Edward Street, Oxford, OX14HT
It is an exciting move for #popupyoga. I timed it from the old studio above Lush and it takes only 2.5 minutes on foot. So not far at all and conveniently off High Street. Look for Sweaty Betty and we are pretty much opposite them!
I spent my Sunday moving in. I mopped about a decade's worth of grime and dust from every surface. Literally. The place, I hear, used to be a strip club. So Oriel College are more than happy to have yoga there instead and the guys in the cafe above me are a very cool bunch of New Zealand ex-pat types. I found the space because James who coaches Oriels Rowing team and I met at the Freshers' Fair and I'm teaching the Ladies team Yoga.
I arrived in my Beetle today to take the stuff out of Lush and into Jericho feeling, I confess pretty sad. I will miss the guys in Lush downstairs, and no number of cakes, bathbombs and hugs we exchanged to say farewell will replace the opportunity they gave me. They are such an ethical company, and I am proud to have been asssociated with them. We are hoping to still arrange a return for Yoga Quota above Lush, but in the mean time, Jericho have been very kind to host me!
When I turned up at Jericho, the cafe windows were all covered in brown paper and had 'private' scrawled across them. So I immediately thought Oriel had managed to rent the space out and would turf their Rowing-Coach-come-coffee-house-owner and College-Yoga-Coach out! But luckily it was the remains of a 30th birthday party and I'm still in the space until it finds a proper person. Pop up yoga is so much fun!
The new studio is totally cool though. Granted I will miss the lantern from the alley outside of Lush, the smells of the products and the bubbles flying up from Cornmarket Street. However, here we have more space, a waiting room with coffee (otherwise known as the cafe), no chance of getting locked behind shutters and more changing rooms.
I haven't been in a strip club before, so I don't know why there is a warren of little rooms? Anyway there are, one is a very sanitary changing room now.
A couple of eight legged friends seriously tested my Ahimsa (non harming) resolve. They move fast. I left them until last and luckily one of the Baristas came in and saved me from the blighters.
I have found that my mopping skills are not up to my Yoga skills. I mopped with fairy liquid at first, got a sea of bubbles and had to do it all twice more.
Now we have a shiney, industrial-cool studio. As people at @moaningmundy and my wedding reception in a reclaimed 18th century factory in Cardiff know, I am partial to a bit of industrial-chic decor so I feel right at home in the Coffee Dungeon. Hot yoga will be possible so watch this space!
I'm about to text and email all my clients to let them know of the move. Nothing else has changed though...don't fear! We still book on line, drop in if you want to and come for fabulous candle-lit yoga for a (so I say so myself) fabulous cause!
