Yoga Quota's Referral Program creates space for people dealing with personal challenges to practice in our Oxford studio for free. We work with an amazing network of charity partners to offer their clients the opportunity to practice in our studio anonymously, fully integrated just like our non-referral clients.
We know that part of the benefit of yoga comes from it being centred in a community of passionate and caring students and teachers.
We offer our referral clients free unlimited access to our regular studio classes, allowing them access to a range of styles and times that is accessible and inclusive for them. You can make a difference by donating to our 2018 Local Hero Campaign where you’re supporting people in your local community who are vulnerable and in need.
Read below to hear from one of our referral clients about their experience at the studio.
I first came to yoga about 18 months ago. As a keen runner (some would say too much so), I was laughably inflexible and setting myself up for a serious injury; as a PhD student in a foreign country, half a world away from home, I was also managing anxiety and depression. A close friend recommended that yoga might have a positive impact on both counts. I am glad to report that she was right.
I have found that taking the time to practice – setting aside other concerns for an hour at a time and simply being present and committed – nourishes both my body and mind. Being mindful, cultivating my breath and focusing my attention inward allows me to take a step back from the sometimes chaotic world in which we live. That is not to pretend that this is an easy step: often I find it difficult to separate my practice from the remainder of my day. However, acceptance and understanding are more productive than frustration. Instead, through self-reflective practice and with the guidance of Yoga Quota’s instructors, I have learned to direct compassion towards myself: to start from practicing kindness and understanding my own needs, that I might direct these more effectively towards others.
The entire Yoga Quota community has been incredibly welcoming and supportive – always happy to answer my myriad questions, ready with a kind word and understanding of challenges beyond the studio. As a collective, they make me feel valued in a way that precious few others can.
Words cannot express how grateful I am to Yoga Quota, their staff and supporters, without whom I would find it extremely difficult to practice. Thanks to their generosity, I know that no matter how challenging life can be, I can always approach my mat and take the time to actively practice with kindness and compassion.
