As I entered the hall I was greeted to the sounds of everyone singing 'dancing queen' together at the top of their lungs (as it was karaoke hour) and the fun didn't stop there!!
I had the pleasure of working with Keen, a charity that provides social and sporting activities for people with special needs.
Considering the bundles of energy everyone had, including the volunteers, I started our flow up on our feet as we stretched, strengthened and twisted our way eventually down to the floor. We held each pose for only a short time to build up lots of heat and it keep everyone engaged throughout. I challenged us all to find our balance in bakasana (crow pose), not an easy pose, but a few of boys nearly had it!! Very impressive! After building up all of that heat we ended the session with some cooling breaths as we all prepared to go home.
For most people in the room it was their first taste of yoga but the volunteers commented on how engaged everyone was for the session and how much they all seemed to enjoy it.
A big thank you to Keen for letting me come and crash their evening. From what I saw the volunteers do an amazing job of making their sessions fun and keeping everyone in a large group engaged and included. I hope I get to share a little more yoga with them in the future. I will make sure I get here early for Karaoke this time .....
