Have I missed it in my furore of a stressful week??! How ironic. Anyway here is a little yoga thing to help your mental health... try it let me know how it goes!
I hope that during this week, you have had the chance to consider your mental health and give yourself a break. Not enough people acknowledge that mental health is a disease and not your ‘fault’. Anyway, even if we have missed the week- we should probably be aware of it all the time!
Yoga is really good for your mental health. I’m looking forward to some lovely materials from Chloe one of our Yoga Quota teachers who is teaching Student Minds about the way yoga can help you.
But for now if you have read this far try this for me:
When you breath in imagine all your thoughts being gathered up in your mind as though you are sweeping them on the floor into a little of dust and dirt. .
When you breath out imagine the thoughts are being exhaled through your nostrils. Getting rid of them all positive and negative alike.
(do this five times slowly)
How did that go?
I find detaching myself from my thoughts, and imagining them like little specs of dust or rubbish or nice things really helps. Especially for the mean thoughts that are telling me that I’m useless or whatever (yey depression!) Breathing them out feels fab! The more you detach you from those thoughts, the more you can accept the effects of mental health and with the help of GPs and professionals you can become more resilient to them.
On a more physical side breath work or pranayama can really calm you down, that’s why in the yoga classes at Yoga Quota your teachers may tell you to move while you breath.
