It's okay to fall, it's okay to fail and it's okay to be mentally on the other side of the world during yoga sometimes... it's all part of the practice.
I think I speak for most of us when I say that we practice yoga because we care about it. We care about doing the postures correctly, about mastering our balance, and about trying to stay to present throughout the class. We care about accidentally farting in class (we've all done it!), about "giving up", and about embarrassing ourselves in front of others. Sometimes we take our practices really, really seriously.
And that's okay. But it's also okay to be a total mess. It's okay to pass wind, to fall out, and to feel like your postures are wonky. Really, it is. It's just yoga after all! And failure, frustration and (hopefully) laughter are all a part of it.
I challenge you to just have fun in your next yoga class. To let go of any expectations you have for yourself and for the class and to just be there, letting whatever happens happen without judgement. Tell yourself that it's just yoga, and that epic falls are just a much a part of it as finally mastering that pose you've been struggling with for years. Be goofy! Laugh! If you fall, just get back in. You absolutely don't need to be perfect. For me, this realization has been one of the most rewarding parts of practicing yoga. xx
