Here are some key hip excersises to get your hips more flexible. Found on YogaByCandice
You may find some of the poses a little strong- firelight pose for example is a big 'un but as Candice says just do your best.
I would also recommend 3 legged down dog with a hip rotation as this you tube vid shows you- circumduction where you're rotating your hip 360 degrees- not a movement it often gets to do!
Someone who came to stay this weekend is a kick boxer and in Thailand his trainers jumped on his knees when he was in Badakonasana to open his hips. Don't do that folks!
Hips are a bit of our bodies that really show if you are unflexible. If you're a runner or a cyclist it is likely you'll be so strong on you hips that sitting cross legged or seated on the floor is agony. Some yogis say that hips are where we store all our angst. Either way, even if you don't want to sit on the floor and cannot see a need to be flexible on the hips don't you want to be able to do this...?
Please note that it may not be just your muscles holding your hips back- your ball and socket joint may be too- so ease off on yourself too!
