I won't share this one on fb and twitter because my sister has been berating me for not being positive enough in my blogs- um so here's a secret blog on a fatism article which is worth a read- with my positive and negative comments about it like the real world!!!! Sush! Don't tell my sister
A yoga friend of mine shared this article with me saying 'great article'. As you know Yoga Quota is about diversity and sharing yoga out, so people who won't have stumbled across it can try it. I hadn't really considered obesity to be honest (fatist?) I was more along the lines of poverty or gender or age.

See what you think of the article. I found it quite an interesting read. A larger lady taking up yoga and inspired by a Canadian who is campaigning for yoga especially for overweight people.

http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/oct/11/fat-girls-do-yoga-too

Good description of her negative spiral of events where the clothes for her sizes had to be men's clothes, and everyone in the class seemed threatening so she felt awful, and avoided the class that would help her! Ah! (I have an inkling that it may be worse in London than the Oxford Yoga scene) but as I say at the start of every Yoga Quota class it's not about competition or comparing yourself with others or even with your past self or your future self. Argh!

It's true often people are prejudiced against fat people as she says. Although I still think all the other predjudices are massively around too which she implies fatism is the only one left...'that you're still allowed to be'

I agree with the following statement though statement:

"A lot of people are [priced out]. Yoga has got to change, start attracting a whole new level of people who don’t dare go now. Young, fit people need it, but they probably don’t need it as much as someone who’s just had a knee replacement.”

Sound familiar to Yoga Quota's aims?  Let's get yoga more diverse and people go haven't stumbled across it can have a try.

Shame that her quip about the Yorkshire pudding at the end if her article does exactly what she said all the media does. She ranted earlier about the media portraying fat people as 'funny jokes' and then ended on a fat joke. Great.

Anyway. Worth a read and a think about. Bring on diversity through Yoga Quota
