As part of their teacher training, we ask our trainees to write a blog post sharing their thoughts on their experience, or a favourite topic that comes up during the course. Chiara is now just over a month away from finishing her training, and she shares with us her experience and top 10 moments!
As 2018 brings about lots of new, exciting yoga training modules, I want to reflect on how
this incredible experience has shaped the past months of my life, what it sparkled, and what it brought in, more or less unexpectedly.
I embarked on the journey of a yoga teacher training in a time of my life when I already had
quite a full plate: I was in the middle of my Postdoc at the University of Oxford, dealing with
the logistic difficulties of a long distance relationship (my husband lives abroad), obviously
worrying about the future. Becoming a qualified yoga teacher was nowhere in the plan.
And yet, yoga had been part of my life for at least the past 10 years, and when I realized the immense learning potential of a teacher training, I had no doubt that I wanted to make space for it in my life. As I turned 30 last summer, I wanted new tools to search for wisdom.
Yoga Quota was exactly the sign I was waiting for: not just a yoga studio, but a charity with a mission to spread yoga to those who need it the most. This is precisely what convinced me. Doing the teacher training would not simply be an act of personal development, but would also provide me with a skill-set that I desperately missed: the knowledge of something that I could offer to others.
Since the last summer, the journey has been full of discoveries, laughter, and reflection. My top ten highlights, in random order, of the past months of teacher trainings were
Overall, even if I am still in the middle of the journey, I feel that so many things have moved inside and outside: I took time to seriously define the values I live by, to understand my weaknesses (and treat them with kindness), and to be more aware of where I stand, so that I can make more space for others.
This teacher training was infused with a continuous sense of compassion, humility, attention, curiosity, gratitude. I am sure that the next modules will bring a lot more, surprising me again and again. And then the journey only begins with the 200 hours certificate. I cannot wait to see what will come next.
