Santosha (skt. संतोष saṃtoṣa, santōṣḥ) literally means "contentment, satisfaction". It is also an ethical concept in Indian philosophy, particularly Yoga, where it is included as one of the Niyamas by Patanjali.
We are theming Santosha this January... Lucy in Falmouth had this lovely idea to link our studios Oxford and Falmouth more by doing a monthly theme. The theme will be chosen by our yoga teachers and we will be interweaving the concepts throughout our classes this month.
And why contentment?
We January is all about new beginnings, right? WRONG!
All this pressure you're putting on yourself to be slimmer, better, excellent at such and such, fluent in this and that language and generally better is not healthy pressure.
Now I'm not saying dump all your goals. When would we ever achieve anything if we dumped all goals?
But I am saying take these goals with a bit of healthy contentment. Not from a standpoint of discontent with yourself. Definitely not from a standpoint of seeing other people on social media in magazines or whereever who seem better than you. Just a goal that you want to do and
Enjoy the journey!!
So Yoga Quota, we are trying to buck the trend of most companies in January (and Gyms in particular) who are really capitalising on your feelings of discontent.
and have a lovely January!
