We had a masculine class at yoga quota...now bear with me when I explain!
On Wednesday we found out that I was having a baby boy (probably...I think you can never tell 100%? One of my colleagues thought so too but it turned out to be a thumb and a girl)
So to celebrate a healthy child on the way, we did a "masculine yoga class" of "strength"
Big pinch of salt because it is incredibly stereotype-y of me to have even concieved the class! But hey ho.
Lots of arm balances and warrior poses were on the cards- thanks fully the class were up for the laugh.
The girls incidentally had wonderful arm balances- so again...
Bakasana (crow) o f course
Tittibasana (fire fly)
I cut the side crows because wrists were beginning to complain about how much they'd been stood on. All these poses on the palms of your hands- please please please spend as much time with wrists flexed (ie palms hugged into your forearms) afterwards- look after them wrists!!
A tip is to do them on blocks or to put a blanket under the heel of your hand which reduces the angle that the wrist goes at.
The regulars came back today too- with I was pleased to hear not an aching set of arms but aching core!!! Woo! Which means they were using the right area of their body to do the poses! Boom!
Anyway have a go now at home and then rest your wrists!
Thinking about it quite a lot of the analogies in yoga seem to type cast male (pingola) sun strength female (Ida) moon flexibility but I suppose we'll let them off due to the context of the time.
