Loving this picture about knitting being the new yoga.
Perhaps as a yoga teacher I shouldn't tell you that all the yoga asana (poses) are only there to get you to this state of bliss and meditive relaxation. So if that is knitting for you....crack on!
As much as I get a guilty pleasure knitting (since my confession about crafting in my blog about Yoga_Bao all the truths come out!) for me knitting has not got the benefits of yoga...
What I guess they mean is getting that meditative bliss by doing something just mind-occupying enough to distract you, but still familiar enough to calm you down. Yoga has this perfectly. Knitting for some too.
You must have done an activity and got meditative benefits out of it? Like playing a favorite piece on the piano or driving home from work (shush that shouldn't be auto pilot but it often is!)
Obviously, the yoga asana have been well renouned for working, probably the endorphins and the physicality helps. Whether they were practiced 1000s of years ago in the exact Ashtanga sequences as is claimed I don't really mind. They work. So I would still try yoga over knitting if you want to get to that blissful state! Plus you get the side benefits of a toned body....but whatever works for you!
