My name is Al and I'm not a yogi, I'm a hypocrite.
My wife is a yoga instructor, but I can't touch my toes
.Exactly a week ago today I was dragging my tired and stiff body around the 26.2 mile route of the Greater Manchester marathon. I had been running 5 days a week since November and my muscles and joints were tired.
It was all part of a promise to myself that I'd complete a marathon before I was 30, and now that I've ticked that box I can move on with my life! The promise I also made to myself and my wife was to do some yoga afterwards.
I have done some yoga before (you may have read my previous blog on hip flexors here for YQ) and I really enjoy the feeling of freedom in my body afterwards. I have recently been jolted into the realisation that I need to care for my body by both my parents suffering with bad backs and hips. I am determined to take action.
Hence, this is the start of my 'journey', or reformation if you must. I don't feel the need to become spiritual or to focus on the meditation just yet, I just want to spend some time giving my body a good old MOT, and where better to do it than at Yoga Quota?
So, after giving my body 7 days to recuperate I am pledging myself to the asana and will practise yoga for the next month (at least). If you feel that you 'aren't flexible enough to do yoga', don't fancy the chanting or just want to try something different follow my regular blog over the next month, or even better head down to the YQ studio in Oxford to get your stretch on! Maybe you can join me there in downward dog?
